What is the WarpCast News Service?

The WarpCast News Service from OS/2 e-Zine! and the OS/2 Supersite is the Internet's most comprehensive and up to date source for OS/2 news -- and it's free. It contains content from usenet newsgroups as well as information from a variety of other sources and information found by OS/2 e-Zine! and OS/2 Supersite staff and WarpCast readers.

How do I subscribe?

To sign up for automatic e-mail delivery of WarpCast news, use our on-line form. You will receive a confirmation message via e-mail. Once you reply to this message, you'll be registered to receive news.

If you have problems using this form, you can also sign up for e-mail delivery of the WarpCast by sending an e-mail to news-request@os2ezine.com with only the word:

subscribe

in the body of the message.

Why does my subscription confirmation message bounce?

When you use the online subscription form to subscribe to WarpCast, you will be sent a "confirmation" message via email. You must reply to this message to complete the registration process. If our mail server refuses to accept your reply to this message, it may be because you are using a "questionable" Internet address. Because of the frequent irresponsible uses of some Internet domains (for example, using them to send massive "spam" mailings), we have been forced to reject all incoming mail from these domains.

Domains affected by this policy may include, but are not necessarily limited to:

  • ...@yahoo.com
  • ...@writeme.com
  • ...@hotmail.com

You can still receive WarpCast messages at these domains. However, if you are attempting to subscribe with an email address in one of these domains, you must send your confirmation reply message from your "real" email address (i.e., the email address given to you by your Internet Service Provider).

How do I unsubscribe or change my e-mail address?

To remove yourself from automatic e-mail delivery of WarpCast news, you can also use our on-line form. Again, you will receive a confirmation message via e-mail. Once you reply to this message, you'll be removed from the service.

If you have problems using this form, you can also unsubscribe by sending an e-mail to news-request@os2ezine.com with only the word:

unsubscribe

in the body of the message.

If you want to change the e-mail address that your WarpCast news is sent to, please use our on-line form to unsubscribe your old address and resubscribe with your new one.

How can I contribute news or rumors to WarpCast?

To submit news, rumors or other announcements, you must be a member of the WarpCast list. Once you are subscribed (subscription is simple and free), just send your news and rumors to news@os2ezine.com, or use our news submission form. (If you send us a rumor, PLEASE clearly mark it as such.) A moderator will approve your message and send it to the list as soon as possible.

OK, this is nice and all, but I want to join a discussion list.

There are several good OS/2 discussion lists:

  • The OS/2 User List from the OS/2 Supersite - This is a relatively new list for discussion between OS/2 users.
  • OS2-L - This list is frequented by such OS/2 "celebrities" as Esther Schindler and Colin Hildinger. (OK, I wrote this FAQ, so take off <g>.) This list has a lot of very knowledgeable people on it and is a great source of information, but can wander off topic often and will occasionally swell to 100 messages a day, so be prepared. This list is also available as a usenet news group at bit.listserve.os2-l where it is easier to deal with the sometimes massive numbers of posts.

How do I know WarpCast news is accurate?

All WarpCast messages are clearly marked with the name of the source of the message and whether the news has been verified or not.

What currency are the prices in WarpCast announcements?

Often press releases and other announcements refer to prices of software and other products. Usually the type of currency is either clearly indicated or it is meant to be in US dollars. To be certain, contact the person identified in the "From: " line at the top of the press release.

How frequently will I receive news?

WarpCast will be delivered to your e-mail inbox whenever there is news to be found. This means that messages may come in several times a day on a busy OS/2 news day.

Is there a web site where I can read WarpCast news?

Yes! If you prefer to read WarpCast news on the web, just visit http://www.os2ss.com/warpcast/. This site contains all the messages that are posted to WarpCast and is updated in "real time".

Is there a digest version available?

Yes, simply go to the list management page, enter your e-mail address, and select the digest delivery button. Then submit the form and you will begin receiving daily digests.

I signed up but I'm not getting messages. What's wrong?

First, make sure you attempted to subscribe to WarpCast with your correct e-mail address. When you subscribe to WarpCast, you will receive a verification message. You must reply to this message in order to complete your subscription. Once you reply to this message, you will receive confirmation that you are subscribed. If you did not receive a verification message and a confirmation message, you are not subscribed. Try subscribing again.

Second, Occasionally our mail server will have problems with some e-mail addresses and eventually unsubscribe them. If you are automatically unsubscribed it probably means that messages were repeatedly bounced from your address. This can be caused by problems with the Internet itself but is usually caused by problems with the mail server at your ISP. If this happens you will need to resubscribe. If it happens repeatedly, you might want to contact your ISP about fixing the problem.

Special Note for Advantis (IBM.NET) Users:
We have had numerous complaints from users of IBM's Internet Service Provider, Advantis, telling us that they are not receiving any messages from WarpCast. This is apparently a problem with Advantis. We are investigating and when we find a solution, we will post news of it here, as well as to the WarpCast list. For now, we recommend that you report the problem to Advantis technical support.

As a temporary workaround, Thom Davis has volunteered his time and resources to forward WarpCast announcements to users who are having problems receiving them directly. To take advantage of his generosity and subscribe for immediate delivery, send a message to Thom and put in the body of the message:

Subscribe Confed3WarpCast

To Unsubscribe from immediate delivery, send a message with:

Unsubscribe Confed3WarpCast

To subscribe for digest delivery, send a message to Thom and put in the body of the message:

Subscribe WarpCast Digest

To Unsubscribe from digest delivery, send a message with:

Unsubscribe WarpCast Digest

Please Note: You must have the text EXACTLY as it appears above or you will not get a confirmation message! - back to top -

Post Road Mailer reports attachments but does not decode them properly.

Users of Post Road Mailer who subscribe to the digest version of WarpCast occasionally experience a problem where PRM "sees" an attachment that does not really exist in the message. Due to its advanced attachment decoding logic, PRM believes that a line in the message is the beginning of an attachment and attempts to decode it.

InnoVal Systems Solutions has provided a patched DLL to solve this problem. Just unzip this file in your Post Road Mailer 3.0 directory while the program is not running, and reboot your computer (if you have used the Post Road Mailer since the last time you rebooted). Do not try to use this file with an earlier version of PRM.
