PowerQuest Offers NT/Win95 Migration Solution in PartitionMagic 3.0.

PowerQuest Corporation has announced the release of PartitionMagic 3.0. The first product to dynamically resize and move the NTFS and FAT32 file systems from Microsoft. PartitionMagic 3.0 incorporates major new components including IBM's Boot Manager and features from MicroHelp's best-selling utility, Uninstaller.

PartitionMagic 3.0's support for NTFS and FAT32 now makes it an even more powerful tool for consumers and corporations that are planning to migrate to new operating systems like Windows 95 and Windows NT 4.0. Users can create separate partitions for each operating system to eliminate compatibility conflicts. PowerQuest has also licensed Boot Manager from IBM to make it easy to choose which operating system to load when starting the computer.

The new version of PartitionMagic supports the FAT32 file system which will come preloaded with Windows 95 on many new computers. FAT32 allows users to have a partition larger than 2GB but does not allow partitions smaller than 512MB. PartitionMagic converts existing FAT partitions to FAT32 when appropriate. The product also can convert FAT32 partitions back to FAT.

Additional new features include:

Saving hard disk space lost due to inefficient cluster sizes has long been a benefit of PartitionMagic. As drives got larger, storage cluster sizes grew to 32K. If a 2K file is saved in a 32K cluster, the unused portion (30K) is lost. By reducing the size of the partition, PartitionMagic brought cluster sizes down to a more efficient level.

Anticipated street price for PartitionMagic 3.0 is US$69. The product will ship the middle of November 1996 and will be available at major software retailers. There is no longer a separate version for Windows and OS/2. Both versions will come in every box.

JMA Software Technologies Ships HTMLview v1.0.

Today, to celebrate the birthday of its founder and chief programmer JMA Software Technologies started to ship HTMLview 1.0. HTMLview is a Internet web browser and HTML viewer built to be compact and easy to use.

Features include offline and online browsing, downloads, select a new link while a document is loading, easy to use QuickList and others.

HTMLview is also available in customized versions. If your company has need for a specialized and/or featured restricted web browser please contact us for more information.

HTMLview is not built to be the all in one Internet application. WebExplore and Navigator both tries to incorporate as much as possible but we found out - asking our betatesters - that most users prefer separate mail and news clients. Therefore HTMLview is built to contain the browser part and be a quick an compact browser.

But the most compelling reason for HTMLview is that you can influence the features. Try calling IBM or Netscape and ask for a specific feature, our browser (HTMLview) is built on what our testers asked for.

HTMLview 1.0 ships as Trial and Registered Editions. The Registered Edition lists for USD $25. The Trial Edition is a free trial version that might be evaluated in 30 days. The Trial Edition has a timeout and has limitations on its features. Any use after the trial period requires you to register. The Trial Edition is available for download from our world wide web site and from several public ftp sites.

For more information contact JMA Software Technologies or visit the world wide web site.

HTMLview can be purchased through BMT Micro.

OS/2 Magazine to Cease Publication.

The following is an announcement from Katie Brennan, Group Publisher of OS/2 Magazine and of Miller Freeman's Advanced Operating Environments publishing group:

"Thank you for your support in helping to create a well-respected publication for the OS/2 market, OS/2 Magazine. It is important that you be among the first to hear officially of our to cease publication of OS/2 Magazine. We plan to continue publishing OS/2 Magazine through the January 1997 issue.

"Though our editorial product continues to be in demand, a large number of vendors in the advertising community have abandoned or decreased support for their OS/2 products. As you know, the cost of continuing a magazine with low advertising support is prohibitive, but reader demand cannot be ignored. Our challenge is deciding how to satisfy reader needs and balance that with a product that can be self-supporting. We hope that you will understand the business decision behind OS/2 Magazine's closure.

"OS/2 Magazine's PAID subscribers will be transferred to Miller Freeman's LAN Magazine, effective with either the February or March issues (the timing is still being worked out). If you are already a LAN Magazine subscriber, your subscription will be extended by the number of issues remaining on your OS/2 Magazine subscription.

"OS/2 Magazine's NON-PAID subscribers will receive a special OS/2 demographic edition of Miller Freeman's Software Development Magazine, which will be published five times in 1997 (March, May, July, September, and December). This special edition will be geared towards corporate developers currently using or planning to use OS/2.

"On behalf of the entire staff of OS/2 Magazine, thank you for your support over the past three years. We look forward to continuing to serve you, either through LAN Magazine or through Software Development Magazine's new OS/2 demographic edition."
